Introduction : The gorgeous Piramal Haveli located
near the Shekhawati Bazar is a haveli designed in colonial
architectural grandeur. The haveli was built by Seth Piramal
Chaturbhuj Makharia who was a wealthy merchant. The haveli
is conspicuous by its columned passage way and courtyards
which are adorned with outlandish mural paintings of gods
and goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon. The hotel is managed
by the famous art restorer Francis Wacziarg in association
with the Neemrana group of hotels. The hotel's architecture
is a harmonious bend of Edwardian and traditional Rajputana
artistic style.
Accommodation : The Piramal Haveli has eight well appointed
guestrooms which are tastefully decorated with traditional
Shekhawati art and period furniture. The fabrics used are
traditional Shekhawati and each room exudes with a distinct
Shekawati aura. The rooms are clustered around a beautiful
courtyard which is adorned with colorful frescoes. There is
a spacious drawing room "baithak" which is designed
like an authentic Rajasthani sitting room.
Dinning : The best of the local Marwari food is served
at the hotel's in house restaurant. The traditional Marwari
cuisine is an out and out vegetarian fare with clever mix
of spice and chilly. Meals are served on Thali basis which
is an all encompassing meal with rice, chappatis, dal, a range
of vegetarian curries, Yoghurt and sweets. Every now and then
the hotel arranges for sand dune dinners. But there is a catch.
A minimum of 8 guests have to be present. The chefs are all
hand picked by the hotel's management and each one of them
are thoroughly trained and they do a marvelous job catering
to the taste buds of the hotel's discerning guests.
Recreation : Shekawati is particularly famous for its
abandoned and uninhabited havelis, mansions, monuments and
forts. It is a region where you find dusty bazaars and hamlets
interspersed between sand dunes. The hotel encourages sight
seeing in and around Shekhawati. Within the haveli, there
are provisions for various indoor games, like carom, chess,
cards and even musical chairs. For the philosopher in you,
there is the well-stocked library.
