Introduction : The Sher Bagh Jungle Camp is an extremely
comfortable if not regal tented camp site located in the peripheral
area of Ranthambore National Park. The camp is actually set
in a privately owned parkland that provides breath taking
views of the verdant evergreen valley. The fabulous tents
seem to be straight out of a 1960's cowboy movie. The tents
are actually the replicas of the hunting cottage of the erstwhile
Maharaja of Jodhpur. The Sher Bagh Jungle Camp being located
in a densely wooded area of Ranthambore only heightens your
chances of viewing the big cats for which Ranthambore is most
famous.
Accommodation : Although Sher Bagh is a camping site,
you are provided all kinds of luxuries that befit a star category
hotel and the dozen luxurious tents are designed in spartan
fashion and equipped with all modern amenities. The tents
have been set up in a semi-circle format and the block-print
fabric that has been used add a dash of colour to the tents.
Surprisingly there is no air conditioning but fans provide
enough cool air. Reading lights are strategically fitted to
aid in a fine reading experience. All the tents have attached
showers and sophisticated marbled sinks.
Dining : Dining at the Sher Bagh Jungle Camp is a sumptuous
affair. You begin your day with the customary bed tea followed
by breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch is Western style while
dinner is a buffet affair. The Sher Bagh Jungle Camp relies
on its fresh farm produce for its kitchen so one can be assured
of quality cuisines.
Recreation : Sher Bagh Jungle Camp has its own fleet
of vehicles for wildlife safaris. The camp also has trained
naturalists who have years of experience under their belt
and know the terrain by the tip of their fingers. A visit
to the Ranthambore fort and the majestic Surwal lake can be
a very rewarding experience. There is also the local craft
centre where one can buy souvenirs from a wide variety of
handicraft items. The presence of a few NGO's in Ranthambore
who are working towards promoting eco-tourism as well as educating
the indigenous tribals means that a visit to their workstation
can open a fascinating world of opportunity and discovery.
The royal past time - horse riding can also be a great way
to explore the peripheral areas of Ranth ambore forest where
a few tribal dwellings are located within the periphery of
the park. Needless to say, the tribals lead a colorful life-style
and guests can have a fulfilling experience interacting with
these simple folks.
