Introduction : Chandra Mahal Haveli is housed in a
19th century haveli located in a quaint village of Rajasthan
- Pehersar. This intriguing haveli was built by Mughal emperor
Akbar's subjects who had conquered this miniscule town in
the year 1699. The haveli is conspicuous by its distinct Mughal
architecture and is built around an inner courtyard. The medieval
balconies add to the charm of the haveli. In a matter of a
few years, the Chandra Mahal Haveli has carved a niche for
itself as a hotel tucked away in a remote Rajasthan village,
away from the din and bustle of cities.
Accommodation : Chandra Mahal Haveli is a small hotel
with just 22 rooms. It may be small in numbers but provides
all the comforts that today's modern jet set traveler might
crave for. Each of the rooms have a traditional Rajasthani
folk ambience and are ornately done up with indigenous Rajasthani
décor. Needless to say, like every aspect of life in
Rajasthan, the rooms are colorful to say the least and the
ambience is distinctly of medieval era Rajasthan. The elegantly
appointed suites are conspicuous by their open porticos, which
provide discrete privacy. The traditional Rajasthani swing
or "jhulas" as they are referred to in the local
parlance are provided in the porticos.
Dining: Although the dining options may not be many,
only continental and Indian cuisines are served. The chefs
do a wonderful job and the food does taste really good. Try
out the traditional Rajasthani fare. They are lip-smacking
good.
Recreation : As dusk descends on the quaint village
of Mandawa, the stage is set in Chandra Mahal Haveli to an
enchanting evening of folk music and dance. A visit to the
world famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is high on the agenda
of most visitors to the Haveli. For the culturally inclined,
a village safari is just the thing to indulge in.
